Kolaval is a 2D animated feature film that tells the story Nichim, a warrior born into embroiderers, escapes her arranged marriage to prevent a violent invasion. Guided by legends, she enters a mystical forest with a dubious demon, seeking a goddess's power to mend her village and find women's freedom.
When I was little I listened to all the stories of my grandmother's youth, and when I grew up, I understood what was behind them: my grandmother was an abused, raped and married woman, at the age of 15, and she managed to take her children and get out of that situation 25 years later.
Kolaval is a project dedicated to women who lived through similar situations, and who, like Nichim, face them with resilience. Hoping that one day we will all be able to say Lek Oyun Kolaval: My heart is at peace.

When the villages hidden in the mountains worked as one, a beautiful temple was found in the surrounding forest.
It contained an impressive power, which they called "Yaxte": The Goddess of Abundance. The people trusted her and gave offerings in exchange for protection, rain, and abundance. However, the greed and thirst for power of one man caused the temple to disappear without leaving a trace. This brought chaos to the villages, and they all vowed never to join forces again. Time passed, and people whispered that a warrior with a pure heart would be capable of entering the forest, overcoming its dangers, and finding Yaxte, thus bringing peace back to the villages.
Production state
Kolaval is currently in the development stage.
At this moment, we have the visual development and style guides for the movie, and a first version of the script.
Our project is a co-production between México and Colombia. We’re working with Dinamita Animación, a prominent Colombian animation studio, with whom we are actively seeking funding for the next stages, including the teaser, and establishing partnerships with studios and grants for the production bible and the preproduction phase.
The production timeline envisions starting the teaser in the second half of 2024.
